Yesterday, I got VirtualBox 3 installed on my Linux box at work. Quite a few improvements since 2.2, I can tell. But they also improved the annoying registration dialog. At least, it’s very easy to turn off:

  • edit your VirtualBox config file
    vi $HOME/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml
  • look for the ExtraDataItem tag with name GUI/SuppressMessages and add the following to its value attribute:
    ,remindAboutRegistration
  • save the file and restart VirtualBox without the nagging dialog
