Getting COSI. Finally…

Boy, that was one crazy week. 1.5 weeks ago, I got appointed to set up a website at uni for COSI – The Centre for Open Software Innovation. As backend, the university’s preferred content management system (CMS) MySource Matrix was to be used. The only catch: launch on July 1st.

Not exactly a lot of time getting used to a new CMS and setting up a website. To add to the list of problems, I had to come up with my own visual template for the website. Even though the Matrix comes with an extensive manual (~1300 pages), it lacks the Getting Started Guide. On Tuesday last week, I could finally get my hands on the server that was supposed to run the website. Geez, this Matrix is complicated and not exactly straightforward. I found Plone a lot more intuitive compared to this one (not to mention being more widely used, having a larger user base and a thriving community).

After battling a few bugs (event list empty/useless by default, unable to import template tar.gz files generated with ant), I spent a lot of time reading and trying to come up with a reasonable looking CSS-based template.

And finally, after too many hours, the website went live today! 🙂
