Finally they realize it themselves!

Just came across an article in the NZ Herald, titled Lousy NZ drivers blamed for high death toll. It’s interesting, how a country with a speed limit has a higher road toll than one without, for instance “Germany’s autobahn where there was no speed limit but about half the road toll deaths per capita compared with New Zealand.” For a German, driving around NZ roads, this isn’t much of a surprise. Road rules are guidelines and nothing more. Crossing unbroken lines (notably the shoulder and therefore normally the resort of cylcists), indicating after the lane has been changed or one has turned is common practice. I don’t know why, but New Zealand is the only country in the world with left-hand side traffic, but rules from right-hand side traffic. Anways… An almost non-existing driving training compared with bad roads explains a lot regarding the high death toll, IMHO. But it’s nice that they finally realize it, that some things are just plain b…it.
